What role does this vitamin play in reducing your tooth cavities?


Dr Mercola brings information with regard to this vitamin and the role it plays in reducing dental cavities, heart health, cancer etc.    The Vitamin D Council reports:


"There were also several studies reported on vitamin D and dental caries in the 1920s and 1930s. May Mellanby and coworkers in Sheffield, England, did studies on the role with regards to teeth in the 1920s.


The first experiments were with dogs, where it was found that vitamin D stimulated the calcification of teeth. Subsequently, they studied the effect of vitamin D on dental caries in children, finding a beneficial effect.


Additional studies were conducted on children in New York regarding dental caries with respect to season, artificial ultraviolet-B (UVB) irradiance, and oral intake of vitamin D with the finding that it took 800 IU/day to prevent caries effectively."

Increased hip fracture risk when deficient in Vitamin D


19 August 2008:  News on Health is delight to bring you information from US researchers who have concluded lower blood concentrations of this vitamin increase the likelihood of hip fracture among menopausal women by up to 70 per cent.

For an average of seven years the researchers studied 800 50-79 year-olds selected from nearly 40,000 candidates who were not using estrogens or other bone-active therapies. The mean age of the participants was 70 years.

Of the 800 selected from 40 clinical centres across the US, 400 patients of the same sex and race had suffered hip fractures while 400 control had not.
